transition year student outdoors kayaking

The Gecko Adventures Transition Year School Programme aims to introduce students to the world of outdoor education and water sports in West Cork

Duration: 3 days 10am to 4pm
Group size: 20 to 50
Cost: €120 pp

It could be the first step towards an exciting and challenging
Summer job as an outdoor instructor during college years, a lifelong connection to nature
and adventure sport, or even a career.
This course gives young people an introduction to sports such as kayaking, sailing and
windsurfing as well as helping them develop skills in teamwork , leadership, self-directed
learning, and environmental awareness including understanding and forecasting weather
and tides.
Our goal is to use the fun and excitement of adventure sports to encourage group bonding
and communication. As well as overcoming the challenges that come with an ocean
environment to foster self confidence, teamwork and a love of nature.
Gecko Adventures is affiliated with the national governing bodies of Canoeing Ireland and
Irish Sailing. If students acquire the right level during the course they can gain certification in
windsurfing, paddleboarding, kayaking and sailing. If students are interested in continuing in
outdoor education they can join the Gecko Academy, this is a weekly class for teenagers
which trains them to become qualified instructors.
