Programme Details
This is the third Freestyle Frenzy Competition at Gecko Adventures in Courtmacsherry! All levels are welcome, we’re just here to have some fun, hit the water, and maybe even win some prizes.
Our event is split into three categories:
Bronze Fleet: Suitable for beginner windsurfers, comfortable sailing upwind and downwind, tacking and gybing, and performing self rescue. This event may include racing, triangular course etc
Silver Fleet: Intermediate windsurfers, this is still a fun event, but for those comfortable in planing conditions, using the harness. Triangular course, last man standing, best trick (or most stylish tack!)
Gold Fleet (ranked): Freestyle event for freestylers! Best freestyle tricks & jumping.
Program specifics will be announced on the day, and are dependent on weather conditions and sign up numbers.
On the day we will also have a “car boot sale” for competitors and windsurfers to offload any gear that’s been gathering dust! Join the car boot sale by simply dropping your gear off, sticking some prices on it and leaving the rest to us. We will have staff on site to manage and sell equipment, and you can just take what’s left plus your earnings at the end of the day! Cost for sellers is €10.

More Info & fAQ
+ I’ve never done freestyle before, what if I don’t know any tricks?
As long as you can tack, gybe, windsurf upwind and know how to self rescue, you are qualified to enter! This isn’t a pro competition, if you don’t know any tricks then just go out and have fun! And maybe you’ll even learn a new trick on the day!
+ What if there’s no wind?
Ah the age old fear! But that’s exactly why we’re here, MIXING IT UP! We’re not pleading with the sky for howling gales and gazing at the gaping horizon for the next angry looking cloud with hope and lust. We’re here for the gentle breeze. The rustling leaves.
+ But… what is there is LOTS of wind?!
Well…. that’s a new complaint. But then it’s a “lots of wind” freestyle competition, we’ll adjust the sailing area accordingly, and try not to have too much fun between tricks!
+ Can children enter?
Yes, children and teenagers aged 12 and up who are experienced and able to manage themselves safely are welcome! This being our first competition, we expect a modest turn out and so children, women and men are all in the same category.
+ I have lots of gear, but my boards are too small for lightwind!
We will have big floaty boards available for rent, 180-200 litres, at reduced rates
